Hearing Aids

Behind-the-ears (BTE) Instruments
- Two parts – Hearing aid and a custom ear mold
- Primarily suitable for most mid to high-frequency hearing losses but also now available for many severe to profound hearing losses
- Most appropriate for infant and child ears (while growing)
- Typically needed if direct audio input (DAI) is to be used (e.g. FM System)

Receiver-in-the-canal (RIC)
- Sound is transmitted via a thin wire to a tiny receiver (speaker) in the ear canal
- Great for mild to moderately-severe hearing loss
- These models are smaller than standard BTE models and can be worn comfortably behind the ear
- Less visible and provides the most natural sound making your own voice sound better to you

Full-Shell (ITE)
- Circuitry is built within a custom-made shell
- Fills most or all of the concha of the ear
- Usually suitable for mild to severe-profound hearing losses
- Some circuits may be able to accommodate direct audio input (DAI)

Half-Shell (ITE)
- The circuitry is built within a custom-made shell
- Fills about half of the concha of the ear
- Usually suitable for mild to severe-profound hearing losses
- Some circuits may be able to accommodate direct audio input (DAI)

In-the-Canal (ITC) and Mini-Canal Instruments (MC)
- The circuitry is built inside a custom-made shell
- Fit further into the ear canal than ITE instruments
- Smaller and less visible than ITE instruments
- Most appropriate for mild to moderate-severe hearing losses

Completely-in-the-Canal (CIC) Instruments
- One of the smallest custom hearing aids available
- Usually suitable for mild to moderate hearing losses
- Can be used for some conductive hearing losses
- Usually come equipped with a small plastic retrieval line for removal

Lyric
- Smallest disposable hearing aid
- Usually suitable for mild to moderate hearing losses
- Closest to the ear drum providing very natural sound quality
- Most cosmetically appealing – 100% invisible
- Available with a yearly renewable subscription
